What is Vinyl Regrind and Why Should I Care?

What is Vinyl Regrind and Why Should I Care?

Have you thought about using regrind, or our "house mix" for your next release? Regrind is recycled vinyl that didn't pass QC, and trim that comes off the vinyl records after they've been pressed. We recycle the vinyl ourselves, using a grinder to crunch it back down to usable PVC. It's an excellent option if you're looking to press your next record, and here are a few reasons why.

Cheaper

Because we're not using brand new PVC, it'll cost less — and those savings add up. Here's a breakdown based on an order of 200 12-inch records:

  • Regrind vs. Black vinyl: Black costs $46 more, a 2.3% increase
  • Regrind vs. Color vinyl: Color costs $204 more, a 10.1% increase

Choosing regrind over black vinyl saves you around 2%, and over color vinyl, more than 10%. For an independent artist or small label, that's real money that can go back into your release - think artwork, mastering, or promotion.

Unique

Because regrind PVC is sorted by tone - light colors mixed with light, darker colors with darker - every record comes out one of a kind. The swirls, speckles, and blends that emerge from the mix mean no two records look exactly alike. For collectors and fans, that's a genuinely special thing to hold in their hands.

Environmentally Friendly

We'll be honest, pressing vinyl records isn't the most eco-friendly process out there. But choosing regrind is an easy, meaningful way to reduce some of that impact. Instead of introducing brand new PVC into the process, you're giving already-existing material a second life. It's a small step, but it's a real one. Whether you're an independent artist watching your budget, a label looking to reduce your environmental footprint, or just someone who wants a record that looks as unique as it sounds - regrind is worth considering. It's affordable, sustainable, and produces something truly one of a kind. Next time you're ready to press, ask us about our house mix. We think you'll love what comes out of it.
