Last Saturday's Record Store Day celebration showed how the vinyl holiday can bring people together beyond just selling rare vinyl. Our little plant in Lawrenceville became Pittsburgh's hot spot as it transformed the annual Record Store Day into something truly spin-tacular (do we like puns here or no?)
The main attraction was a marketplace featuring local Pittsburgh bands selling their merch. Anything from vinyl to tapes to t-shirts. Ex-Pilots, Ames Harding and the Mirage, Animal Scream, Jack Swing and Colatrua to name a few of the bands.
Adding to the atmosphere, Jackworth Ginger Beer (my personal fav bar in the city) set up shop inside Hellbender, mixing specialty cocktails featuring their signature ginger beer. Outside, 77 Club's wood-fired pizza truck served up hot slices to hungry music fans taking breaks from their record hunting. We also hosted tattoo artist, Two Fish, who offered flash tattoos on-site for attendees willing to make a permanent commitment to their Record Store Day experience. I personally chickened out, but that’s for another email newsletter.
The event was a major success. We heard from attendees that they’re eager to have more events like this, and we’re really excited to host them. Community is really important to us at Hellbender, and we’re so excited to have the ability to welcome people into our space.
