Owner Spotlight - Jeff Betten

Name: Jeff Betten

Position: Owner/Operator

What does your day to day look like? I supervise the team, process new orders, assign tasks, answer questions from prospective customers, manage the website, spearhead our marketing, hire new staff, and more! It's a lot.

How did you get into vinyl record production? I was managing a record label, and the bands started asking if we could press their albums on vinyl - back in 2013, this wasn't much of an issue, but as time went on it would take longer and longer to get our projects from the plant. One day, I got to meet with Mayor Peduto and his team, and they asked me if I had any big projects that I would undertake if they helped me find the financing. That's when I told them: Pittsburgh should have a vinyl record pressing plant! A few years later, and here we are.

Do you have a favorite record you own? What is it? Yes! I have an original copy of "Pet Sounds" by the Beach Boys - for the longest time, I only had a reissue, and not to sound like Rob Gordon in "High Fidelity" but it was a big moment when I got a first pressing.

What are your current top 3 favorite musicians/bands?

  • Jeanbo
  • Pitter Patter
  • Benji.

What's the best live music performance you've ever seen? Cat Power at Hartwood Acres - this was their 2006 tour in support of "The Greatest" and were backed by the Memphis legends Hi Rhythm Section (Teenie Hodges even sang lead vocals on "Since You've Been Gone").

Do you like joy? This concert was the sound of joy.

What was your first concert experience? "Weird Al" Yankovic at Hershey Park. Still a fan!
